Week Seven

It has been another fun week in Room 1. We have spent some time talking about our beautiful state of Western Australia and some of the special animals, plants and locations that we have here. We have continued to talk about living and non-living things and are creating a collage of WA items as a class display. Thank you to parents and students who provided us with pictures for the display.

This week we will be learning a new phonic sound Gg as in goanna and galah.

Our new sight word is can. We will be learning to recognise this word in sentences and making up our own sentences that use this word.  For example
I can run.
I can draw
I can sit.
When reading books with your child, you may like to ask them to find words that they recognise. The sight words that we have learnt so far are look, Mum, am, at, I and a.

In numeracy we will be learning all about the number 10. We will also be practising to count starting from different points in the number line. For example, starting at 5 and counting 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. We will also practise counting aloud from 1-20 and backwards from 10-1.

Constable Care was a fun, educational and interactive incursion yesterday. We hope your children enjoyed the puppets and the host Dawson. He was engaging the children with a wonderful sense of humour and encouraged their use of imagination.
